In a devastating incident that has shaken the Greece, New York community, Jillian Branciforte, a cherished English as a new language teacher at Greece Olympia High School, tragically lost her life in a car accident. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at the intersection of Big Ridge and Manitou roads in Ogden, when a dump truck overturned onto her vehicle.
Branciforte, a 29-year-old resident of Greece and a 2013 graduate of Hilton High School, was the sole occupant of her car and died at the scene. Ogden Police Chief Travis Gray reported that the accident took place just before 2:45 p.m. involving a 10-wheel dump truck carrying gravel. The dump truck driver sustained minor injuries and received treatment at Strong Memorial Hospital. Authorities have stated that initial investigations suggest drugs or alcohol were not contributing factors to the crash, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of this fatal incident.
Jillian Branciforte’s passing comes just two days after the commencement of the new school year, leaving a void in the Greece Central School District community, where she had served since 2018. She had been in her role at Greece Olympia since 2019, where she also dedicated her time as the National Junior Honor Society advisor and the English as a new language team leader.
Greece Olympia High School Principal Brandin Jones fondly remembered Branciforte as an exceptionally kind, supportive, and committed educator. He described her as “a downright excellent teacher,” highlighting her profound impact on students and colleagues alike.
The outpouring of grief and remembrance was evident on Monday as students, teachers, and community members across the district donned purple in honor of Branciforte. Her desk at Greece Olympia High School became a poignant memorial, adorned with numerous bouquets of flowers and heartfelt tributes, as shared in a touching social media post.
Beyond her dedication to education, Jillian Branciforte’s personal life was filled with promise and love. A graduate of St. John Fisher University with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a master’s in education from Nazareth College, she was deeply committed to learning and growth, both personally and professionally. She was also engaged to be married to her fiancé, Chris Blyth, and the couple was joyfully planning their wedding for late December.
A visitation to celebrate Jillian’s life is scheduled for Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Bartolomeo & Perotto Funeral Home, located at 1411 Vintage Lane, Greece. According to her obituary, a formal funeral service will not be held.
