Rashee Rice Car Accident: Chiefs WR Involved in Six-Vehicle Crash

Former SMU and current Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was involved in a six-vehicle collision on the North Central Expressway (U.S. Route 75) in Dallas last month. An arrest warrant affidavit, obtained by the Dallas Morning News, revealed that Rice was driving his Lamborghini Urus at 119 mph just seconds before the crash. The accident resulted in at least seven injuries, some severe.

High Speeds and Aggressive Driving Preceded the Crash

Data retrieved from Rice’s vehicle indicated a speed of 119 mph just 4.5 seconds before impact. A Corvette driven by former SMU teammate Teddy Knox was also involved, traveling at 116 mph 7.5 seconds before the collision, slowing to 91 mph just 1.5 seconds prior. The affidavit describes both drivers engaging in “multiple aggressive maneuvers” to navigate through traffic.

Leaving the Scene and Facing Charges

Following the crash, Rice and four other men reportedly left the scene without offering assistance to the injured. This led to charges against Rice, including one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injury. He turned himself in to authorities and was released on bond. In an earlier statement, Rice took “full responsibility” for his actions.

Severe Injuries and Lasting Impacts

The accident left several individuals with significant injuries. One woman sustained injuries to her head, neck, and back, requiring her and her 4-year-old son to remain stranded on the highway for approximately five hours. Another victim suffered serious injuries to her face, head, torso, and leg, leading to post-concussion symptoms and potential long-term limitations in mobility and sight.

Knox Also Facing Charges, SMU Suspension

Knox, who was driving the Corvette, faces the same charges as Rice and has been suspended by the SMU football team. He also turned himself in to authorities. Police have stated that the passengers in both vehicles who left the scene will not be charged.

Rice’s Football Career and Background

Rice, a 23-year-old wide receiver, was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft. He had a successful rookie season, contributing significantly to the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory. He grew up in North Richland Hills, a suburb of North Texas.
