About
The Da Baby Car, also known as the DaBabymobile or DaBaby Convertible, is a popular internet meme that originated from a photoshopped image. This meme playfully transforms rapper DaBaby’s head into a car, complete with wheels. The humor stems from online jokes comparing DaBaby’s head shape to a Chrysler PT Cruiser and a memorable lyric from his hit song “Suge.” The meme’s virality peaked during the wave of Ironic DaBaby Memes in March 2021, leading to the creation of “Da Baby Car” modifications in various video games.
Origin of the Da Baby Car Meme
The genesis of the Da Baby Car meme can be traced back to a YouTube interview conducted by Canadian interviewer Nardwuar on March 24th, 2019, titled “Nardwuar vs. DaBaby.”[1] Around the 6:30 mark in the video, DaBaby’s profile is prominently visible.
Prior to April 10th, 2019, the comparison between DaBaby’s head shape and the Chrysler PT Cruiser emerged online. Early mentions of this comparison appeared on Twitter on April 10th and 19th, 2019, by users @FiddleStackss and @los_draco.[2][3] However, it was a tweet by @kitchbecool on May 29th, 2019, that truly popularized the idea. This viral tweet featured an image juxtaposing DaBaby’s head with a Chrysler PT Cruiser, garnering over 7,600 retweets and 26,200 likes in two years (shown below).
This meme quickly spread across the internet, with users creating and sharing jokes about the perceived resemblance between DaBaby’s head and the PT Cruiser on various social media platforms.[5][6]
While these jokes about DaBaby’s head shape maintained a consistent presence online, the meme didn’t fully evolve into the “Da Baby Car” until August 24th, 2020. On this date, the Twitter and Instagram account @raplyricsaspics (@raplyricsasimages), managed by Twitter user @FebreezyXD,[18] posted a two-panel Genius Lyrics Messages meme. This meme combined a lyric from DaBaby’s 2019 song “Suge”[9] with a photoshopped image that gave DaBaby’s head car wheels, effectively creating the “Da Baby Car” (meme and photoshop shown below, left and right). This post received over 50 retweets and 420 likes on Twitter and nearly 400 likes on Instagram within eight months.
The lyric: “I will turn a nigga into a convertible.”
Spread of the Da Baby Car Meme
The “Da Baby Car” meme experienced rapid viral spread in the weeks following its initial appearance. On September 1st, the Facebook group “Rappers In Peculiar Places” reposted the image, which quickly accumulated over 5,500 reactions and 3,400 shares in seven months. Similarly, on September 5th, 2020, iFunny user IronManLOHH reposted the meme, gaining over 580 smiles in the same timeframe.[11]
Leading up to the first major surge in popularity of Ironic DaBaby Memes in November 2020, numerous Da Baby Car memes circulated widely online. For instance, a meme that gained significant traction during this period was posted on September 27th, 2020 (shown below).
The trajectory of the Da Baby Car meme’s spread mirrored the broader rise of ironic DaBaby memes online. In late November 2020, the subreddit /r/DaBaby [12] started attracting more attention as its ironic and often absurd content became increasingly recognized across the web. Throughout late November and early December 2020, /r/DaBaby became a central hub for ironic shitposting centered around DaBaby, and many memes, including those incorporating the Da Baby Car photoshop, went viral (examples shown below).
Following the shutdown of the /r/DaBaby subreddit on December 3rd, 2020, the Facebook[13][14] group “Rappers In Peculiar Places” continued to fuel the meme’s popularity. They used the Da Baby Car image in numerous viral ironic memes between December 2020 and February 2021 (examples below). Several of these posts were subsequently shared in the /r/okbuddyretard subreddit during the same period.
In March 2021, ironic DaBaby memes, including the Da Baby Car, experienced another surge in popularity, particularly within the /r/okbuddyretard subreddit. This renewed wave of interest led to the memes spreading further across Instagram, Twitter, and other social media platforms.
Da Baby Car Video Game Mods
The widespread popularity of the Da Baby Car meme led to its adoption as a popular subject for video game modifications. This trend mirrored the existing popularity of using Thomas the Tank Engine and Shrek in video game mods.
On August 25th, 2019, Roblox user OGPresto began developing a custom Roblox game titled DABABY RACETRACK.[15] This game allowed players to race as Da Baby Convertibles and became playable in March 2021 (videos examples shown below, left and right).
